Sponsorship

AITF allocates a modest annual budget to invest in sponsorship opportunities that support our business mandate and help us achieve corporate goals and objectives. We also review opportunities in relation to the entire Alberta Innovates family (Bio Solutions, Health Solutions and Energy & Environment Solutions) and its scope of operations.

AITF Mandate and Role
The purpose of the Corporation is to make strategic and effective use of Alberta Government funding to meet the research and innovation priorities of the Government.

These priorities explicitly include:

  1. Fostering the development and growth of new and existing industries, and
  2. Supporting a balanced long-term program of research and innovation directed to the discovery of new knowledge and the application of that knowledge to improve the quality of life of Albertans.

The Corporation is responsible to:

  • support, for the economic and social well-being of Albertans, research and innovation activities targeted at the development and growth of technology-based sectors and aligned to Government of Alberta priorities, including, without limitation, activities directed at the commercialization of technology and the application of knowledge
  • meet the research and innovation priorities of the Government in the following areas or in a combination of the areas: agriculture, forestry, energy, the environment, health, any other area determined under the regulations
  • foster the development and growth of new and existing industries through research and innovation

A full description of our corporate mandate is available for reference as appropriate.

Sponsorships Supporting Business Results

Sponsorship investment opportunities are assessed based on how they help advance business relationships and business objectives. Consideration is given to:

  • relationship building and collaboration potential with target audiences including customers and clients, partners, stakeholders and potential employees
  • the ability to position AITF and the AI family as thought and practice leaders in strategic areas of focus, with communities and in subject areas related to our mandate and of business value
  • research, innovation and entrepreneurialism at the college and/or university levels in fields of study relevant to AITF’s business needs and recruitment priorities

Because AITF works in the areas of applied research and innovation for commercialization and business development, sponsorship opportunities of a general science nature and/or targeting audiences below the post-secondary level do not fall within the scope of AITF’s mandate and would not be eligible for funding. Funding is generally awarded on a one-time basis and is contingent on budget.
